The End of An Era?
And so it comes to an end... The brand new RU Cavers site has now been launched - you can view it at
www.rucavers.co.uk. This old version of the site has served us
well over the last 8+ years - however it is now time to say goodbye...
However the old version will continue to remain accessible from
old.rucavers.co.uk indefinitely - it is left here
as a monument to all the hard work that was put into it, and as an archive for anyone who is interested
in the history of the site (strange people!). Please bear in mind that this area will not be updated -
for all the latest news and information about the Reading University Caving Club, you should visit the
current site.
Finally, it just remains for me to thank everyone who was involved with this generation of the website -
particularly Paul Fellows who originally set it up and put a lot of effort into maintaining it. Hopefully
the new site will help to continue and expand upon this legacy...
Thanks for visiting!

An Important Announcement...
I am delighted to announce that a brand new version of the RUCavers website is currently being developed! Long-time club
members will be aware that this has been in the works for quite some time - however we are getting close to completion,
and the new site will be launched before the start of the next academic year.
There will be many changes and improvements to the site - here are some of the main ones:
- Brand new look and feel (whilst remaining true to the spirit of the current site).
- Many more ways for club members to participate on and interact with the site, and contribute content to it.
- Calendar with links to details of all upcoming club events.
- Much more comprehensive Facebook integration.
- Easier to get in touch with committee members and enquire about joining the club.
- And last but not least, the site will be much easier to maintain, which means that it can (at
last!) be updated much more frequently!
If you have any other suggestions for the new site, you are very welcome to
contact me.
Finally, some eagle-eyed visitors may notice that some of the old posts which used to be visible on this page are
no longer present.
[UPDATE - 03/10/2011: This content has now been restored in all its former glory on the
current site...]

New Committee for 2011/12!
On Monday 21st March 2011 we held our AGM at Sweeney & Todds pie shop, where our new committee for the 2011/12
academic year was elected.
Here are the details of who was elected to each position:
President: Elsie Brooks
Secretary: Chris Holt
Treasurer: Alice Dale
Social Secretary: Kathryn Hooper and Joshua Matthews
Tackle Master: Florence Goodwin
Webmaster: Patrick Hathway
And last but not least, we have a new very important position:
Cake Secretary (!) : Chrissie Picken
This was one of the most eventful AGMs that the club has had in many years - indeed, I think I'm right in saying that virtually every position was seriously contested by at least two candidates!!
I'm sure this is a very healthy sign for the club.
So congratulations to everyone who was elected - I think we've got an amazing year ahead of us!

Welcome For All New Cavers!
Interested in joining us? Want to find out more? Why not visit our stall at the Fresher's Fayre on Thursday? Or come to our presentation in the HUMSS Building (room 125) at 6pm afterwards...
This Saturday, we'll be going on a day trip to the nearest caving region (The Mendips, in Somerset), so you can try some caving and see what it's like. The club will also go on 3 longer weekend trips this term - see our trips page for details. Every Monday we get together and find out what's planned, and there will also be several social events - always entertaining, and sometimes just bizarre!
If you are interested in joining, or would simply like to find out more about the club, take a look at our information page and our FAQs. Or get in touch with Mesh - our president. We look forwards to meeting you!

New photos!

It seems like an age since any new photos have been put on this site, so I thought it would be an idea to add some of the ones that have been floating around over the past year or so!
Hopefully this will also give any new cavers an idea of the kinds of crazy things we get up to...You have been warned!
Here are the photos that have been added - many thanks to the people who created them:
Enjoy!
P.S. there should also be some more dramatic developments on this website within the next few weeks or so - watch this space...

News! Reunion Retro Event Type News Shock

In case you are an ex-RUCC member and in a state of unawareness (quite possible this) the current and oh-so-vibrant club are organising a reunion event.
It will be taking place on the weekend of 13-14th March, at the South West Caving Club. I think the intention is that newer members drink from
the font of wisdom of the older members and the older members look at the newer kit and say things like 'it was never like this in my day. The cave almost rigs itself!'
Although recreational drinks may also be involved. If anyone wants to go leave a comment/contact me/the current Secretary Jo.
Currently rutting down for a good frolic:
- Kevin Welch
- Andy Kuszyk + Mesh
- Henry Dawson + Shiv
- Jonathan Majewicz
- John Kitching
- Jon wichett

P.S Can I do 'Play Your Grapes Right'?
P.P.S I still have control of the caving club home page...... wah ha ha ha... By the way, is this a good idea?
P.P.P.S If you're reading this Mr Kitching, I've just seen the photos of the Burlesque evening on Facebook and the one of you fondling Jon's bottom will stay etched in my memory forever.
